Upright spikes of large flowers, not at all like the more familiar trailing types grown in hanging baskets. They are good plants for the boggy garden, adapting well to ‘wet feet’, but growing equally well under average conditions. Excellent for using as a specimen or massing in the border, containers or tubs. Nice for cutting. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds. Forms an upright mound of green foliage, bearing taller spikes of scarlet-red flowers in mid to late summer. Attractive to both hummingbirds and butterflies. Not usually long lived but will sometimes self-seed where happy
