The flowers of the Polar Bear hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata 'Polar Bear') are large, showy panicles that can reach up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length. They emerge in mid to late summer as a soft lime green, quickly turning a brilliant creamy white as they mature. As the season progresses into autumn, the blooms often take on subtle pinkish or greenish tinges, adding further interest.
Each panicle is made up of a mix of sterile, petal-like florets and smaller, fertile flowers, giving the blooms a full, layered appearance. The florets are delicately shaped with rounded edges, creating a soft, cloud-like effect. The flowers are held upright on sturdy stems, which prevent drooping even after heavy rain, making them excellent for both garden display and cutting for arrangements.
